Mission:

To take an informative and entertaining look at a wide range of topics with the aim of improving our understanding of pets and other animals in the world. Each week, we take on a topical issue relating to animals and delve into the emotional, economic, or cultural aspects surrounding it. We’ll explore issues from various perspectives including their historical context, their economic impact, or perhaps their artistic relevance. Our guests include sociologists, historians, entertainers, politicians and authors.

Deirdre Kennedy – Host, Executive Producer

Deirdre has spent 17 years in broadcasting, holding positions at NBC News and ITN in London, KTVU-Channel 2 in Oakland, KPFA, KALW, and most recently KQED FM in San Francisco where she was a reporter and newscaster. She’s contributed stories to All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Marketplace, Living On Earth, On the Media, Performance Today, The Infinite Mind, Latino USA, This American Life, and BBC Outlook. She got her B.A. from U.C. Berkeley in Rhetoric, and attended the Graduate School of Journalism at U.C. Berkeley.

Deirdre has been awarded for her medical and health reporting by the Hospital Council of Northern California, The Peninsula Press Club and The NFCB.

Kat Snow – Contributing Editor/Newscaster

An 18-year veteran of public radio, Kat has won state and national awards for her coverage of the environment, health, politics and religion. She was reporter and News Director at KUER Public Radio in Salt Lake City. Kat has written stories for Newsweek, The Atlantic Monthly and others publications. She currently works as News Editor at KQED-FM in San Francisco, the biggest public radio station in the U.S. She is the mother of one very elegant Boxer dog named Zoe.
